Peeking at new conferences for upcoming school year

Football: Riverside-Durham vs Hillside (Oct. 14, 2016)

May, 18 2017, 10:14 AM

The school year is quickly coming to a close and the new school year will arrive before you know it.

Over the last week, I've been working on HighSchoolOT.com to get our website ready for the new realignment, which goes into place this fall.

Realignment is the process in which the N.C. High School Athletic Association moves teams into classifications based on their school population numbers, then organizes new conferences appropriately. The process occurs every four years.

This year's realignment process is different than most. The NCHSAA adopted a 20-30-30-20 plan, which means the largest 20 percent of the member schools will go to the 4A classification, the next largest 30 percent go to the 3A classification, the next 30 percent to the 2A classification, and the smallest 20 percent to the 1A classification.

With a new system comes some very new conferences. Below are a list of area conferences, including names for each conference which were released by the NCHSAA, all of which will be included on HighSchoolOT.com for the 2017-2018 school year.

What conferences are you looking forward to most?
