Panther Creek's girls soccer team picked up a first round victory on Wednesday night, easing past New Bern, 7-2.

Emily Cardoso helped the Catamounts get the scoring started when she found Meredith Hamby for the first goal of the game in the 10th minute.

Just three minutes later, in the 13th minute, Emily Moxley scored the second goal of the game on an assist from Lauren Reichardt to give Panther Creek a 2-0 advantage.

It quickly became clear Panther Creek was going to advance.

Moxley scored her second goal in the 24th minute on a shot from outside the box, then Paige D'Agostin scored in the 35th minute to give Panther Creek a commanding 4-0 lead over the Bears at halftime.

New Bern tried to make a run early in the second half when Kathryn Dixon scored in the 47th minute in a one-on-one situation with the keeper, cutting the Catamounts' advantage to 4-1.

But Panther Creek wasn't going to allow the Bears to get any closer.

Cazzie Norgren scored for the Catamounts in the 61st minute, pushing the score to 5-1.

New Bern got a second goal in the 68th minute from Katelyn Wallace, but the Catamounts scored two more goals before the end of the game – Reichardt scored in the 69th minute, then Hamby scored on an assist from Kendall Woolery in the 74th minute to give Panther Creek a 7-2 lead.

No. 16 Panther Creek will travel to No. 4 Hoggard in the second round of the 4A state playoffs on either Friday or Saturday. The date and time have not yet been set.
