Millbrook's girls soccer team picked up a first round win over Northern Durham in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 4-A state playoffs on Monday night.

The Wildcats scored the first two goals of the game en route to a 4-2 win over Northern.

Makaya Parham scored the first goal of the game in the 9th minute, poking the cross past the keeper off an assist from Maya Celetti. That score gave Millbrook a 1-0 lead.

Nine minutes later, in the 18th minute, Parham scored her second goal of the game off a header ok a pass from Brianna Morris, giving Millbrook a 2-0 lead.

That lead held through the first half.

It looked as if Northern Durham might make a comeback, scoring in the first minute of the second half, but Millbrook regained momentum.

Hope Freeman put the ball in the net in the 50th minute to put Millbrook up 3-1, then in the 60th minute Brynn Lloyd scored from 25 yards out to push the Wildcats' lead to 4-1.

The Knights got one last goal from Serenity Ellis in the 72nd minute, but it was too little, too late.

Millbrook will advance to the second round of the state playoffs to face Cap 8 Conference rival Sanderson.
